Minister Ahmed Shiyam  attends a panel discussion titled "Kandufalhah Lo Hulhuvun" in the occasion of World Ocean Day at The Maldives National University .The panel discussion is intended for secondary school students.

Dr. Riyaz Jauharee from Maldives Marine Research Institute presented an overview of the ocean, its uses, and its linkage to our livelihood. He also highlighted the importance of sustainability for the Maldives and the prospects to build a career around ocean-related activities. World Ocean Day

Minister Ahmed Shiyam,  highlighted in the panel discussion the vision of H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s to diversify our ocean sector and maximize the benefits of the blue economy. The minister also emphasized the decision to establish a separate ministry, with a mandate to focus on both fisheries and oceans, in order to emphasize the diversification of the sector.

Dr. Sham'aa Hameed from ocean warriors emphasised the urgency of putting into practice the knowledge acquired in school and maintaining a close connection to the ocean. Dr. Sham'aa reiterated that the oceans are under immediate threat from pollution, climate change, and overfishing, and urged every student to take a stand and actively combat these issues.

Brigadier Mohamed Saleem of the Maldives Coast Guard emphasized the importance of Maldivians taking pride in their history and deep connection to the ocean. He also highlighted the significance of using modern technologies to explore, monitor, and make the most of the expansive oceanic territories. Brigadier Saleem reiterated that despite the small size of the Maldives, the country possesses a strategic advantage in the Indian Ocean.
