Minister Shiyam and senior officials of the Ministry met with the Chinese ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, and the senior official’s delegation from the Department of Ocean and Fisheries Resources of Fujian Province, China. They exchanged discussions on the development of fisheries and ocean resources in Maldives.

The Fujian Province of China is renowned for being one of the country's leading regions in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. During the meeting, Minister Shiyam expressed interest in collaborating on capacity building, mariculture, and exploratory fishing to enhance our skills and knowledge in the industry and boost the economy as envisioned by President H.E Dr. Mohamed Muizzu

The minister also noted the government's priorities to transform the Maldives fisheries processing sector and welcomed Chinese investments.
